Time Frames Overview

Time Frames are used in various places throughout Emplifi Agent. Most notably when selecting date ranges for reports and utilities.

Before you begin to create or maintain time frames, you need a thorough understanding of how they are used. For information, see Time Frames and Dates on Reports and Utilities.

Built-In Time Frames

The following pre-defined time frames come with Emplifi Agent:

  • Hour

  • Day

  • Week

  • Month

  • Quarter

  • Year

These time frames and the beginning and ending of the time periods are automatically known by Emplifi Agent. You should never attempt to modify or remove the built-in time frames. If for some reason you want to refer to a time frame using a different name, you should create a custom time frame that exactly matches a built-in time frame.

Custom Time Frames

Emplifi Agent allows you to define custom time frames that are specific to your business. For example, if your company's accounting year starts in July instead of January, you might define fiscal time periods such as Fiscal Year, Fiscal Month, Fiscal Quarter.

When you define custom time frames, you must specify each of the time periods for all past and future dates that you want to support. For example, if a user enters a custom Time Frame on a report option or filter, and the “Today” date does not fall within a defined period of the Time Frame, the following message displays: “Requested a date outside that defined for TimeFrameID: [TimeFrameCode] Date requested: [mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm]." To allow entry of the custom time frame on the report, additional periods need added to the time frame to extend the time frame into the future.
