Language ID

The Language ID allows you to define each of the languages that you will support in a multi-language environment. This is used for several multi-language features in Emplifi Agent, including spell checking.

To access the Language ID codes:

  • In Administration, select System Setup > Language ID.

Language ID is a standard category that uses standard codes. You should create one code for every language you intend to support in your environment.

For more information about categories and codes, see:

By default, the language ID category is defined with a capitalization type of "Set All Lower." This should not be changed. Doing so could affect certain functionality within the application.

Certain codes may already be predefined for common languages. You do not need to delete languages that you will not be using; having these additional codes here will not adversely affect the system in any way.

When a new Language ID is added, the Translations for it in System Metadata System Category Z08 are also added. Users logging into Emplifi Agent using that Language can add Filters and Report Columns. Formerly, these translations had to be added by system administrators or support. If the corresponding language pack does not exist in the XML subfolder of your website, the system will prompt you to use the base language pack. If you have not purchased the language pack from Emplifi, then the system will use the base language pack. If you have purchased the language pack, do not load the base language pack and copy the appropriate language pack to the XML subfolder. The language pack is used for systems in a Language of the Agent implementation.

Translations

If you support agents in multiple languages in your environment, you can enter translations for a code in each of the languages you support.

The Translations section of the screen will already contain one line for each of the language IDs that are defined in your system. You can then optionally enter a translation for each of Description, Description 2, and Description 3.

For agents who are set up to use a specific Language ID, they will see the appropriate translation if it is available. If a given translation is not available, the agent will see the standard value.

Decimal Format

Emplifi Agent supports mixed-culture and same-culture decimal format environments. A mixed-culture environment is where the browser client is set as US (full-stop decimal point) and the Web/Emplifi Agent Server is set as French (comma decimal point).

The system provides settings that define how decimal categories are formatted when stored in the database and the settings associated to the Language ID that defines how decimal categories are formatted when they are displayed in the system.

Current French servers need to be configured to store string decimal categories in “999,99” format.

The following table provides a description of the fields on the Decimal Format tab of the Language ID.

Field

Description

Use language ID

Optional.

If this language_id is only to define a special decimal culture, the “Use Language ID” setting is the 'fallback' language for the category/code translation/paragraph name lookup.

There are several French-speaking countries, for example:

  • France (fr-FR) – decimal separator is “,” (comma)

  • Switzerland (fr-CH) – decimal separator is “.” (full-stop)

In this case, it is necessary to utilize different culture names but there is no need to translate categories and category codes. So the “Use Language ID” setting for “French (Switzerland)” should have language ID of “French (France)”.

Culture Name

Required.

Enter the unique name for the culture and language to use.  The Culture Name also determines the group and decimal separator.

(info) If a culture name is not specified, then the Culture Name defaults to “en-US."

For information, see Culture Name.

Decimal Format

Required.

Enter the format that all decimal categories are stored as in the database.

(info) If a decimal format is not set, then the format string defaults to “0.00”.

For the format characters, see Decimal Format.
