Address Cleaning

The Address Cleaning Utility is used to correct information on address records in the Emplifi Agent database. The primary uses include making sure that addresses match U.S. postal standards, correcting street names and abbreviations, adding latitude and longitude information, etc.

The utility is especially useful if you import address from an external system that does not perform address cleaning on its own, or does not include certain types of address information.

To access the Address Cleaning Utility:

  • From the Application Function Bar, select Utilities > Address Utilities > Address Cleaning.

Utility Options

The following options are available for this utility:

Field

Description

Clean Mode

Determines whether any data updates are actually made. The two options are:

  • Clean Mode: Validates and corrects records in the database.

  • Search Only: Runs through and creates a log of all the changes that would be made but does not actually change any data. (Be sure to also select the "Log Changes" option when running in this mode.)

Log Commits Every

Determines how often the process writes an entry in the log file. The default is a log entry after every 100 rows and should be sufficient for most situations.

Address Selection

These options allow you to limit the selection of address records based on the given criteria:

Field

Description

From Address, To Address

If you want to limit the process to a range of address IDs, you can enter the starting and ending ID numbers in these fields. If left blank, all applicable addresses will be processed.

Country

If you only want to process addresses with a specific country code, enter it here.

Address Type

If you only want to process addresses of a specific type, enter the type in this field. If left blank, addresses of all types will be cleaned.

(info) Typically you only want to select address types that are related to consumer addresses.

Address Source

Additional options for limiting the selection of address records. These options allow you to select or filter records based on how they were first entered into the system.

Field

Description

Case Entry

Include addresses that originated by being entered onto a case. If you are using address verification during case entry, this may not be necessary.

Address Maintenance

Include addresses that originated by being entered manually through the address entry screen.

Import Utility (not including conversion)

Include addresses that originated through an import utility or possibly from a data conversion from another system, depending on when and how the conversion was performed.

Unknown Source

Any address whose source is blank or doesn't match one of the other specified types.

Cleaning Options

Field

Description

Standardize Address1

Cleans the first line of the street address. This includes correcting capitalization, spelling, and punctuation, within the capabilities of the software.

Correct/Insert Missing Parts

Correct or insert other address fields, including City, State, and ZIP code.

Append ZIP+4

Replaces the five-digit ZIP code with the proper nine-digit ZIP specified in the postal database.

Geocode

Inserts or corrects the geographic coding (latitude and longitude) information for the address.

Correct/Insert County

Makes sure that the county information is correct on the address record.

Log Changes

Every change that is made is written to the log file.

Log Incorrect Addresses

Creates a log entry for any address that could not be corrected or verified.

Log Skipped Addresses

Creates a log entry for any address that is skipped

Force Mixed Case: Names, Job, Addr, City

Forces the following columns to be in mixed case: names (First, Middle, Last), Address, City, Job Title.

(warning) You should check with your Emplifi Agent Administrator and/or Database Administrator before changing capitalization rules.

Reset SOUNDEX Columns

This will reset the Soundex values for the name and address fields. The Soundex values are used to perform a Soundex address search rule, which searches based on phonetic pronunciations rather than spelling. (For example, "Phone" and "Fone" would return a match in a Soundex search.) For more information about address search rules, see Address Search Rules Overview.

Results Language

Select the results language for the utility. For more information, see the Results Language section on page Utilities Overview.
