Normalization Data

The Normalization Data categories allow you to set up Normalization Data sets.

Normalized reports in Emplifi Agent depend on normalized data sets to achieve normalization. This normalized data set is used for comparison against current data sets. Normalization can be accomplished using specific Time Frame data or with more generalized data.

Normalization based on a Time Frame is normally used if precise, predictable data can be obtained. For example, a specific month of one year can be compared to specific months of other years. Period Offset comparisons can easily be completed as well. Normalization that is not based on time frame would be used if more general data is available and a relative, or average, data comparison is needed.

The following table provides a description of the fields that you enter to define the Normalization Set.

The Values tab of the code screen is where you define the actual codes that make up the suggestion. For information on this tab, see Application Setup Pagination.

Field

Description

Set ID

Displays the name you entered for the set of normalized data.

Description

Optional. Enter a description of the normalized data set. This displays in the Normalized Crosstab Trend Report next to the totals for each subset of data.

Time Frame

Select a time frame of the data to normalize when loading a data set that was recorded across multiple time periods. It is possible to have many sets of data that represent one time period, or one set that spans several time periods.

Category

Select the category of the data to be normalized.

Level

Select the code level of the data to normalize: 0–Code, 1–Subcategory, 2–Group, 3–Subgroup, 4–Section, or 5–Subsection. Usually this is set to the Code level.

Scale Factor

This is used to factor the data for analysis. This number will not have any effect on imported data. The Scale Factor is primarily used when reporting on this data. Normalization works most effectively if the data is not scaled. We recommend that data be scaled on the report instead of on the data set for more flexibility.

Enter Normalization Data Values

  1. Select the Values tab.

  2. Click the New Value button to enter the Normalization Data.

  3. In the Custom Months area, select all the time periods that you want to include.

  4. In the Code area, select all the codes that you want to include for the selected time periods.

  5. In the Normalization Data field, enter the base value to enter for all the selected Time Period/Code pairs.

  6. Click Save. The new values are added to the Values tab.
